The 12noon update today said there have been 24 deaths in Australia associated with Swine Flu. ABC news this evening is reporting 29 deaths: including one in NSW of a man in his 20s. This person was otherwise healthy. They are doing a post-mortem to confirm the cause of death, but ABC news is reporting that this man could be the first to die solely due to Swine Flu (I gather that they mean, by this, that this person had no other underlying medical conditions).
The 12 noon update also talked about hospitalisations. Here it is:
There are currently 199 people in hospital around Australia with Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 and 74 of these are in Intensive Care Units.
There are 75 patients in hospital in NSW, 38 in Victoria, 22 in the Northern Territory, 32 in Queensland, 24 in South Australia, 2 in ACT, 2 in Western Australia and 4 in Tasmania.
ICU admissions: Of the 74 people currently in Intensive Care Units, 36 in NSW, 20 in Victoria, 7 in Queensland, 5 in South Australia, 2 in Western Australia, 2 in the NT and 2 in the ACT.
The total number of hospitalisations in Australia since Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 was identified is 1250.
